Chapter 7 Bankruptcy
For those who qualify and have a substantial amount of debt from credit cards and/or medical bills, filing for Chapter 7 bankruptcy can be an effective and efficient way to discharge those debts. If you are current on your mortgage payments, you can generally keep your home in a Chapter 7 bankruptcy. It usually does not take long to re-establish your credit after your debts have been discharged.

In a Chapter 13 bankruptcy, a repayment plan is created based on your income, debt and expenses, and you will make payments on that plan for a period of five years. Unlike Chapter 7 bankruptcy, income taxes are also eligible for Chapter 13 bankruptcy.
